The City of Charlestown is bringing The Moving Wall - a 50% scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in DC to the Clark Co. 4H Fairgrounds. The Moving Wall will be open 24-hours a day for visitors to view, make a "rubbing" of their loved one's names, pay tribute, respect, etc. beginning October 8th through October 12th. There will be an opening and closing ceremony featuring Heather French Henry and possibly other local personalities. It is believed that thousands of people from all across Indiana and Kentucky will make the trip to visit The Moving Wall in the few days it will be on display. There are more than 50,000 names on the wall and each name will be read aloud beginning at Noon on Thursday the 8th and ending at approximately Noon on Sunday the 11th. The City has requested the Clark County Red Cross to coordinate the scheduling of all volunteers needed to help during this display - including the readers of the names. The Clark Co. Red Cross will also provide a first aid area and grief/crisis counseling on the site. Other volunteers are needed to assist visitors with locating names on the wall, driving golf carts to take visitors to and from parking areas, and much more. For volunteer information, please visit http://clarkredcross.org . You'll find much more information at http://charlestownalumni.net/tmw or contact the City's coordinator for this event, Mark Goodlett at 502-727-1532.
