Kendra Stumler (2005) a former Lady Pirate who helped Charlestown win 2 Sectional and 1 Regional Championships completed a very successful career at St. Marys of the Woods College. Kendra holds St. Marys of the Woods' school records in free throws in a game (13 for 13), 3rd best most rebounds in a game with 18 and 84 consecutive free throws made during practice. Kendra recently received an award for joining the St Mary’s 1,000 point club. Kendra battled injuries during her College career but always maintained her hard work ethnic and love of the game. 1st Annual CHS Alumni Baseball Game |

The Charlestown High School Baseball Program is currently looking for any former player or coach that is interested in participating in our first annual Alumni Baseball Game and Festivities. On Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 2pm, our baseball program will host this event at the Charlestown Little League, which will be the home of the Pirates during the construction phase of the new high school and facilities. In the event of rain, the rain date will be Sunday, May 24 at 2pm with the same location. This event is intended to provide a fun and exciting environment for all former players and coaches that have donned the Pirate uniform, whether you played one year of freshman ball or four years of Varsity ball; all are welcome. The cost of this event is $25 per person, which covers your game participation and includes a t-shirt commemorating the first alumni baseball game. All checks are to be made payable to Charlestown Baseball. Game details will be released at a later date and each registered player will be notified. Other skill challenges such as a home run competition and a pitching competition will also be offered. Just in time for the upcoming 2009 Alumni Banquet in June, the Charlestown Alumni Association has launched their new website at http://charlestownalumni.org . The new site provides information about the association, the officers, the upcoming banquet, distinguished officers and much more. You can also learn about the scholarship fund and how to apply to receive the scholarship. You'll also find the words to our alma mater and photos of alumni banquets past. The Alumni Association website is the place to go for updating your personal information when you would like to be invited to your class reunion. Keeping your information up to date will insure that you're invited to attend the banquet for your special year reunions - or each year in between. Clark Co. Red Cross receives DOD Grant to extend enhanced services to military families |

The Clark County Red Cross, which serves Clark and Washington counties, has received a grant to provide enhanced services to military families in our area. Director, Phyllis Wilkins says, "This is such exciting news, we now have new programs available to improve the lives of area military families. Our biggest challenge at this point, is finding the military families in Clark and Washington counties. We have no list to work from, no way to find them. We wait for them to come to us. It seems that everyone either has a military family member or knows a family with a member in the service. We're asking everyone to pass this great news on to them!" With the Department of Defense grant, the Clark County Red Cross can now help military families stay in touch with their service member using a service called VideoConnect Messaging. The Clark County Red Cross is hosting their inaugural Ride for the Red poker run on Saturday March 28th (Rain Date April 4th). This event is open to all makes of motorcycles and licensed street-legal scooters. Pre-registration for this event is now open and registering by March 12th will get you a free long-sleeved commemorative T-Shirt. To register, visit http://ride4thered.org - doing so will also save you time in line on the day of the event. Registration will also be available on the day of the ride, however T-Shirts may be purchased for $12 each up to XL and $!5 for larger sizes. The ride will take bikers through Clark and Washington Counties, which the Clark Co. Red Cross serves. It will begin at S&S Powersports in Clarksville at 8:30am and kickstands go up at 10am. The ride will travel through Clarksville, Sellersburg, Borden, Pekin, Salem, Scottsburg, Otisco, Charlestown, Jeffersonville and will end in Utica at the Clark Co. Casting and Conservation Club.
The fee to ride is $20 per bike + $10 for an additional rider. This fee includes the ride (scorecard/poker hand), entertainment, lunch and other activities. Active-duty military and Veterans ride free as a thank-you for their service to our country. At the end of the ride, Flathead Screw will perform and lunch will be served. There will also be prizes and a 50/50 cash pot raffle. And a very important raffle of a 2009 Honda Rebel 250. Chances on this bike are only $5 each ticket - or - $20 for five tickets. A maximum of 4000 tickets will be sold so the odds are very good. The drawing for the bike raffle will happen on Saturday April 18th during Thunder Over Louisville. The Red Cross is hosting a "Military Honors" VIP tent for service members and veterans. For details on that, contact the chapter at 812-283-8416.
